Shanghai to Beijing: China’s C919 Jet Begins Commercial Service This Sunday

People’s Daily Online (Beijing), May 26 (Reporter Qiao Xuefeng) — According to China Eastern Airlines’ app, the first commercial C919 flight schedule has been published for May 28: MU9191 Shanghai Hongqiao–Beijing Capital and MU9192 Beijing Capital–Shanghai Hongqiao, with a planned flight time of 2 hours 25 minutes.
On May 25, Li Yangmin, Vice Chairman and General Manager of China Eastern, said at an earnings briefing, “We have great confidence in the C919.” He noted that China Eastern signed a purchase agreement with COMAC in March 2021 for five C919 aircraft; the first was delivered at the end of 2022 and will be based primarily in Shanghai for commercial operations. The company planned to introduce five aircraft in 2022–2023 and will decide on further orders based on operations and network planning.
The C919 is China’s first jet trunkliner designed and developed under internationally accepted airworthiness standards with independent intellectual property rights. Final assembly rolled out on November 2, 2015; the first flight was on May 5, 2017; and the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the type certificate on September 29, 2022.
