China AOPA Invited to Groundbreaking of Gaoyou High-Tech Zone General Aviation Airport

On the morning of June 28, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gaoyou High-Tech Zone general aviation airport project was held at the High-Tech Zone. China AOPA Chairman Zhang Feng was invited to attend.

The airport covers 572 mu of land with a planned total investment of RMB 690 million. It is a regional Class A1 general aviation airport with flight area grade 2B and a runway 1,000 meters long and 30 meters wide. Oriented toward production operations and consumer services, it will mainly support pilot training, aerial patrols, and agricultural, industrial, forestry, and fishery flights; provide medical rescue, business aviation, aerial sightseeing, and other livelihood services; and cover emergency rescue, weather observation, urban firefighting, and other general aviation functions, as well as test flights of general aircraft and medium/large UAVs and services such as sales, hosting, maintenance, and leasing. It is the first general aviation airport approved for construction in Jiangsu during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, listed as a 2024 provincial major project, and is expected to open next year.

In his remarks, Chairman Zhang Feng congratulated Gaoyou High-Tech Zone on the airport groundbreaking and outlined how, since the Central Economic Work Conference last December designated the low-altitude economy as a strategic emerging industry, Gaoyou’s Party committee and government have taken a forward-looking approach to airport construction and related industries—forming a “government + association, fund + base, airport + park” model to drive high-quality development. He noted that as an industry association, China AOPA will leverage its strengths to bring in external capital and resources, integrate upstream and downstream enterprises, promote regional clustering of technology, industry, and talent, and enhance Gaoyou’s competitiveness in this emerging field. With the airport now underway, the association will accelerate joint efforts with Gaoyou to build a municipal low-altitude economy demonstration zone.
